Da vinci code, anybody?

I thought I would try new kinda post. Da Vinci Code: Has anyone seen it yet? I did not want to post a review or thoughts about it until a couple people on here had seen it. I wanted to see what people thought of the book, movie, and the whole cultural phenomenon.

haven't seen it yet--or read it. Perhaps I will--although I hate getting hyped into doing something that I may or may not have done otherwise.

Honestly, it seems like the Christian version of DanishCartoonGate.

DaVinci code aside--there is an interesting union between religion and cryptography (not to mention conspiracy, but that goes without saying). Some of that is probably a modern adaptation of some of the mystic movements of the middle ages. The Lady Madonna can well tell you, as she hangs on her cross, that the Kabbala in Judaism deals in part with the significance of letters and numbers in the Old Testament--and a lot of things like pattern matching and Bible Codes have come out of that. Seen the movie Pi? Nowadays, this kind of thing is often used to appeal to science-minded skeptics, or for the sheer fun and games of theological word and number play. And occasionally, the odd bit of heresy...

It would be pretty cool if the Lady Madonna could tell me something.

I plan on seeing the DaVinci Code, perhaps today after work, but I haven't read the book and don't plan to.

On a side note, I saw a free preview screening of Xmen 3 last night. It was totally worth the price of admission.

regarding the Lady Madonna, god I hate pop-mysticism (or pop philosophy, or pop psychology)
Wasn't Brittany Spears another one of those faux Kabbalists?

I haven't even seen the 1st X-men...

christ I've had too much coffee

I'm drinking BK Joe, and it's the worst cup of sh*t I've ever had.

The 1st X-men was not that good, though better than the 3rd. The second is so far the best.

I think Britney has spurned the Kabbalists.

Here's my take on the DaVinci code. I can expand on it, but here are the key points:

1. The deal being made out of Tom Hanks' hair is dumb.
2. Audrey Tatou should stick to acting in French.
3. It was miles better than X:3, and a very above average thriller.
4. I don't understand why critics everywhere are panning it, unless they're doing it just to spite all of the people who are so into the DaVinci Code phenomenon.
5. I do understand why the Catholic Church is so against the book and the movie. While it's a work of fiction, it does bring up independent ideas, and if there's anything that frightens the Catholic Church Intelligentsia, it's probably independent-minded ideas about Christian history. Even if it's not true, there's the danger of the seed of an idea being put in the minds of the public.
6. I was overally very happy with the movie, and it was worth the money spent. I give it a B+.
7. I don't think that Harrison Ford would have been a better actor for the lead role.

The movie was OK....i Think it was once of those random movies you get from netflix or pick up at the Buster on a whim and new nothing about it might be a pleasant surprise. One plus is that the movie and I guess the book (i have not read it yet) so push religious buttons. I guess now millions now know what it feels like to have your culture and religion kinda bastardized. I am talking about the Monkey Brains scene in Indian Jones. I hope all the christians felt like something of what i felt when I saw that movie.
In an artistic sense the last Tempation of Christ is better any way.
